Fittingly dubbed the Hotties Helping Houston fundraiser, Megan Thee Stallion has joined forces with the National Association of Christian Churches (NACC) Disaster Services and U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee to help rebuild her hometown of Houston.
The recent treacherous snow storms left many Americans without power, heat, and some, clean water. Megan's home state Texas was hit the hardest, dealing with widespread blackouts across the state. With this in mind, Megan and Co.’s social mission is to raise funds to rebuild and repair homes for senior citizens and single mothers at no cost, with the NACC footing the bill for the repairs.
The Houston hottie added to the good news by announcing that with the help of a number of major donors, including brands Mielle, Revlon, Fashion Nova, Dolce and Gabbana, Coach and her label 300 Entertainment, the Hotties Helping Houston fund will be able to provide monetary support for the next two years.
Additionally some of Megan’s A-list friends including her “Beautiful Mistakes” collaborators Maroon 5, actress Taraji P. Henson have also joined the cause in helping the “Savage” star to rebuild her hometown.
Meg took to Instagram to share details of her plans to help, thanking and tagging all those involved. Adding a personal message in the caption, she wrote, "It is always very important for me to help give back to the city that made me 🤘🏽 I just want to say thank you to everyone who came together with me to help rebuild my hometown of Houston Texas 🚀.”
After "seeing the devastation and hearing the heartbreaking stories that have surfaced, I knew I had to do something to help my hometown," Megan said in an official statement. "I am so happy that Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, the NACC and I aligned on the goal of repairing the homes of the elderly and uninsured single moms who are the most vulnerable and often displaced by these kinds of devastating events.”
The also grateful Congresswoman Lee shared that, “the collective efforts of Megan Thee Stallion, the NACC and the 18th Congressional District will help restore the lives and hopes of people who suffered from no fault of their own. Our goal is to rebuild and restore these homes, which is imperative for my constituents to feel safe and secure.” And went on to thank Megan and the NACC, adding that she looks “forward to working with you on this very important project of restoration of people’s homes.”
The plan is for the NACC to work with Congresswoman Lee for referrals on homes needing rebuilding from online submissions through the Helping Houston Rebuild official website. Houston residents will receive aid based on critical need and a lottery. Once selected public adjusters will assess damages and licensed professionals will evaluate plumbing, electricity and structural repairs including walls, floors, and other damages, while volunteers remove water-logged materials.
The creative hip hop superstar also found another way for people to represent and help raise funds, buy selling Hotties Helping Houston merch, with all the proceeds go to NACC disaster services, check it out here.
