JAY-Z and Pharrell’s New Song 'Entrepreneur' is Here

'A celebration of Black ambition'

JAY-Z and Pharrell just dropped their new collaboration track, “Entrepreneur.” The song arrives alongside a cover package Williams has been working on with TIME magazine, called, "The New American Revolution.” Included in the project are interviews with Tyler, The Creator, Angela Davis, and more, and is described as "a special project ... that examines America's oppressive past -- and the potential for an equitable future.”

TIME described “Entrepreneur” as “a celebration of Black ambition.” Pharrell expressed that for him the song is about “how tough it is to be an entrepreneur in our country to begin with. Especially as someone of color, there’s a lot of systemic disadvantages and purposeful blockages. How can you get a fire started, or even the hope of an ember to start a fire, when you’re starting at disadvantages with regards to health care, education, and representation?”

The track finds the two artists advocating for justice and equal opportunities across all levels of the American Dream. Pharrell raps, “Gravity on the Black man/ With everything on his back and/His family and passion/ If the doors ain’t crakin’ you gotta let go.”

JAY-Z comes in with his own verse in support of Black businesses while also namedropping Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey: “Black Twitter, what’s that?/ When Jack gets paid, do you?/ For every one Gucci, support two FUBUs.”

Pharrell further explained the songs intentions by saying, "The song is trying to communicate that when we stick together, treat each other better and welcome each other, there's more money and more opportunity for everyone.”

Beyond it’s powerful lyrical message, the song itself is a vibe, to no surprises, as it was produced by Williams and Chad Hugo, otherwise known as The Neptunes. Along with the single, JAY and P released a music video which features appearances from notable Black entrepreneurs, including Issa Rae, Nipsey Hussle, Tyler, The Creator, and more.
