Why Lil Nas X Denied His Nicki Minaj Fandom Before Coming Out

The rapper embraces being his authentic self

Internet rumors have always buzzed about Lil Nas X being the voice behind the Nicki Minaj fan account, @nasmaraj. While Lil Nas X did not confirm his involvement in the fan account, today he candidly tweeted that he has always been a fan of Minaj.

The rapper said, "I didn't want people to know I was gay tbh,” after being asked about being a barb stan.

In response, Barbie herself tweeted, “It was a bit of a sting when you denied being a barb, but I understand. Congratulations on building up your confidence to speak your truth.”

The whole exchange between Nicki and Lil Nas X has truly warmed our hearts. Seeing musicians support and uplift each other is the only content we really need.

After Minaj congratulated Lil Nas X for coming out as a barb and being his true identity, the rapper himself said, “@NICKIMINAJ the generous queen, I love u. and I’m sorry I did that in a time where u were already getting so much bandwagon hate. I felt so bad, hoping u wouldn’t see my denial. I was just so afraid of people finding out about me and losing everything before I even got a chance."

Finally when a fan tweeted at Lil Nas, "being a barb don’t make you gay," the "Old Town Road" rapper was up-front about the lack of inclusivity towards the LGBTQ+ community in the Rap and music industry. "It don’t but people will assume if you had an entire fan page dedicated to Nicki u are gay," he wrote. "And the rap/music industry ain’t exactly built or accepting of gay men yet."
