The In Memoriam portion of the Emmy Awards was an especially somber moment given the losses the entertainment community has faced in 2020.
“On Friday, we lost a great American,' Kimmel said. “Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a passionate and tireless champion of equality and justice whose legacy was to make life a little better for people less fortunate than she.”
H.E.R. then began her performance behind a grand piano before moving to the center of the stage to play guitar. Accompanying her rousing vocals throughout the song was an epic guitar solo that lived up to the lofty standards Prince set in the original recording.
Stars included in the segment were Regis Philbin, Naya Rivera, Carl Reiner, Fred Willard, Jerry Stiller, Honor Blackman, Kirk Douglas, and more. The segment concluded with Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman.
Schitt’s Creek was the big winner at the 2020 Emmy Awards as the sitcom took home seven awards. Dan Levy won three of those awards. Watchmen and Succession also took home multiple awards.
