Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and More Soar at Global Citizen Concert

The event was held to raise money and awareness in the fight against COVID-19

Global Citizen’s Global Goal: Unite for Our Future took place this Saturday as numerous world leaders, musicians, and celebrities got together to raise money and awareness in the fight against COVID-19.

The event was a two part series with a summit taking place earlier on in the day and a concert following afterwards.

Hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the Global Goal: Unite for Our Future featured performances from Shakira, Coldplay, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber and Quavo, Miley Cyrus, Chloe x Halle, J Balvin and many more.

Cyrus delivered a timely rendition of The Beatles song “Help.” With lyrics like “and now my life has changed in oh so many ways/My independence seems to vanish in the haze,” it was especially fitting for the moment.

Justin Bieber and Quavo also delivered a phenomenal version of their collaboration “Intentions.” Shot in black and white, the video featured Bieber behind the piano and Quavo, at an appropriate distance, by his side providing vocals in the studio.

Another memorable performance came when the members of the original Broadway cast of Hamilton joined forces with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots on “Helpless.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda showed some love to The Tonight Show house band by donning a Roots t-shirt.

According to Variety, $6.9 billion in funds was raised in advance of the specials. Much of the money was raised from governments, private sector entrepreneurs, and foundations for funds that are dedicated to causes fighting racial, sexual, and social injustice as well as the coronavirus. The Global Goal: Unite for Our Future event follows a similar relief effort Global Citizen put on back in April called One World: Together At Home.
