SCREENSHOTS: Chris Rock Reboots 'Saw' Franchise in New 'Spiral' Trailer

Do you want to play a game?

Chris Rock leaves the comedy behind and heads into seriously creepy territory in the new trailer for “Spiral,” the latest chapter in the “Saw” horror franchise.

The reboot comes 16 years after the original film first introduced audiences to the serial killer Jigsaw.

The new clip deceptively starts out like a standard Hollywood buddy cop film as Rock’s Detective Banks rides alongside his rookie partner played by “The Handmaid’s Tale” star Max Minghella.

But things take an eerie turn as they get a call to investigate the latest in a string of grisly incidents involving a fellow police officer.

“Whoever did this has another motive,” Rock says. “They’re targeting cops.”

Also helping Rock track down the culprit is Samuel L. Jackson, who plays a veteran investigator. In one scene, Jackson utters an expletive rant that is sure to be added to his canon of highly quotable lines.

After a quick montage shows an unidentified man being tortured, the trailer ends with an image that harkens back to the original “Saw” film. Rock is seen with his arm handcuffed to a pipe and holding a hacksaw, similar to when Cary Elwes had to cut his foot to escape in the original.

Released in 2004, the first “Saw” film earned over $100 million at the box office and spawned seven subsequent sequels. The most recent being “Jigsaw” in 2017.

While this latest edition is considered the ninth film in the franchise, producers have said it’s not a direct sequel.

In addition to Rock, Jackson and Minghella, “Riverdale” actress Marisol Nichols also stars in the soon-to-be horror classic.

Fans won’t have to wait until Halloween to be terrified as “Spiral” is set to hit theaters on May 15th.
