Calling all Swifties!
A new Cats trailer debuted on Monday, and it’s enough to make Meredith, Olivia, and Benjamin Swift proud.
Taylor Swift and her star-studded cast deliver plenty of epic and furry moments in the second trailer of the film inspired by the Broadway musical.
The film also stars Judi Dench, James Corden, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, and Jason Derulo.
Swift’s character, Bombalurina, is seen shimmying and shaking it off. Derulo swaps singing his own name for Rum Tum Tugger “Miiiilk!.” Corden’s Bustopher Jones shows off his exceptional hissing, and Rebel Wilson’s Jennyanydots makes jokes about messing with “the crazy cat lady."
Elba’s Macavity gets a bit more screen time as he ominously warns about the dangers of going to the ball.
Unlike the first trailer that debuted in July, the latest release has more dialogue and puts a greater emphasis on the film’s plot, which finds Dench’s Old Deuteronomy — complete with an impressive fur coat — announcing that she’s on the hunt for one lucky member to ascend and be reborn.
“Tonight is a magical night where I choose the cat that deserves a new life,” she says adding, "I judge a cat by its soul.”
Much like after the first trailer, the Internet had plenty of jokes.
Many weren’t impressed with the improvements to the virtual fur and called it the “creepiest thing” they’d ever seen.
Other Twitter users remained optimistic and commended on the film's cinematography among other things.
“Cats” hits theaters just in time for the holidays on December 20, 2019.
