Bebe Rexha spills deets on working with Doja Cat and her album making process

'So cool from the jump'

These days it seems like Bebe Rexha is everywhere, doing the most and living her best life. And as if she’s not already busy enough, she made the time to virtually call in to chat with RADIO.COM's Natasha Castles from LIVE 101.5 in Phoenix, and dish on working with Doja Cat for her newest single “Baby, I’m Jealous,” and spill the deets on her album making process, among many other things.

Bebe shared that the first time she met Doja was through FaceTime. “We just started talking about the song,” Bebe recalled. Adding, “she was so cool from the jump… so focused and so business like. Even when we were on the video shoot together, she was so on point with everything.” Bebe summed up her loving feelings for Doja by saying, “ I just enjoy working with her.”

Speaking of the music video, if you haven’t had a chance to watch it, you should. Directed by one of our personal faves, Hannah Lux Davis, the stunning visual exudes girl power from start to finish, and features Doja (duh), as well as influencers Charli D’AmelioNikita Dragun, and Avani Gregg.

With a lady gang roster like that, Bebe went on to discuss the importance of working with women in positions of power. Praising the powerhouse director that is Hannah Lux Davis, Bebe gushed, “number one she is a women, and she just knows how to shoot women beautifully. She also knows how to make things feel very comfortable, I mean her lighting is like…” Girl, we know! It’s everything. Bebe continued, ”It’s just nice to have that female energy on set.”

Bebe, who’s been working on her album for the last two years, dished on what goes into her recording process. “I just think it’s like really hard to write a really good song,” she admitted. Adding, “this process was just me constantly writing stuff… and I recorded at least 100 songs.” And while she had a “love/hate relationship” with a lot of the songs, her ultimate goal for this album was clear. “I wanted to make sure that this album wasn’t just songs that I like that I put on an album, I wanted it to make sense, musically and sonically and lyrically,” she said, stating that the whole process involved a whole lot of “blood, sweat and tears.”

As for the album’s release date, nothing is set as of yet, because as Bebe stated, “first and foremost I need to love it.” With that said, Bebe did spill some insider deets about artist features. Besides Doja, Lil Uzi Vert will be making an appearance on the album, in addition to “a whole bunch more.” She even hinted that the list included an “OG rapper,” before concluding the interview.
