Superstar artist H.E.R. showed off a brand new guitar during her EMMYs In Memoriam performance this year, and now the beautifully opalescent axe can be yours thanks to a partnership between her and Fender Guitars.
This also marks a major milestone for Fender, as the two-time GRAMMY-winner is the first Black female artist to launch a signature guitar in the company’s 74-year history.
The H.E.R. Stratocaster is availiable for purchase now for just over a grand, and features an alder body finished in a new iridescent color that Fender calls "Chrome Glow," copying the nail polish that she frequently rocks. Fender’s Vintage Noiseless pickups are also a feature, as well as a modern oval “C”-shaped neck that includes an engraved plate with H.E.R.’s artwork.
Watch below as H.E.R. performs behind a piano for the In Memoriam segment of the 2020 EMMYs, celebrating the lives and careers of colleagues who passed this year including host Regis Phelbin, actor Naya Rivera, musician Adam Schlesinger and many more. H.E.R. brought out her signature guitar for a blistering "Nothing Compares 2 U" solo honoring Prince.
In a press release, H.E.R. explained that her love of music comes straight from her father, learning her first set of notes on his own Fender strat.
“My father taught me how to play my first blues scale on a mini black-and-white Strat, so it’s absolutely surreal I have partnered with Fender to design my own Signature Stratocaster. As an artist, I find that my most personal thoughts make the most relatable music. By designing a Stratocaster with a color, shape and sound that is one-hundred-percent my own, my hope is that other young women and players from all backgrounds feel inspired to pick up this guitar, tap into their thoughts, and create amazing music.”
