While jumping on the Instagram “post a photo of” trend, Halsey asked fans what images they wanted to see of her at various moments in her life. When one follower responded “you are your lowest point,” Halsey shared a mirror selfie where she is not wearing a top and wrote, “TW: ED, ask for help.” The singer shared a candid moment in her journey, however, some fans felt the trigger warning before discussing eating disorders was not strong enough.

Halsey removed the post from her Instagram story and followed up with an apology Tweet that addressed any insensitivity. “TW: disordered eating… I am very sorry for posting a photo of myself depicting my struggle with ED without a sufficient trigger warning. I was very nervous to post it and didn't think properly. I had positive intentions. I would never want to harm someone who shares my struggle."

After sending out an apology, the “Graveyard” singer followed up saying that she was now going to step away from social media “because this has turned into something I am not emotionally equipped to handle for the time being. I hope that's okay,"

Halsey has been upfront about the mental health journey she has been on and the tribulations she has battled with throughout her life. This year the global superstar released her first poetry book, I Would Leave Me If I Could, where she opens up about romantic relationships, heartbreak, pain, familial relationships, and accusations of domestic and sexual abuse. The artist says the book focuses on, “things I ruminate on, fixate, miss, cry, regret, re-live and overcome. I love being a weird popstar. But I'll always be a writer first and foremost."
