After All of the Opinions, John Legend's 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' Has Finally Arrived

It’s time to stop arguing and start listening

Did you do it? Were you one of the people who formed an opinion about John Legend’s update to “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” before you got to hear it?

Legend’s version of the Christmas classic has been under heavy scrutiny long before anyone had the chance to actually unpack the performance, with some scolding the song and calling it an "absolutely absurd" product of PC Culture, personally offended by the audacity of the update, as others applauded the new edition that changed the troublesome lyrics and took a bold step forward.

Now after a few weeks of everyone screaming into a keyboard, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson have released their version of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” from the deluxe edition of John’s A Legendary Christmas.

Throughout the song, Clarkson and Legend do the traditional call-and-response, but 2019’s “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” does a lot more winking than any of the previous versions. Legend calls Clarkson a car, even name drops the driver. It’s Murray, by the way. He’s surprised she’s still living with her parents and brags about her brother being a fan, all part of the hilarious and light dance these two amazing voices have with each other.

Who are we to tell you how sacred a 75 year old song should be, but we certainly had fun listening to two talents play off each other with a smile. Also, Murray seems impatient, but we get it.

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is one of 4 new songs featured on A Legendary Christmas: Deluxe Edition. It’s now available everywhere.
