Katy Perry Goes Digital Fun House in New 'Smile' Music Video

Video game hi-jinks and the singer's baby bump are featured in the latest release

Katy Perry is bringing a virtual circus to fans clamoring for new content, releasing her long awaited music video for the hit “Smile” on Facebook, Thursday.

The pop superstar released the title track to her upcoming album amid a flurry of life events. She and future husband Orlando Bloom are expecting their first child, during a global pandemic. Katy has no fear showing her baby bump in the latest video.

Black and white pajamas don the Pop Queen as she carries a midnight pie snack, only to notice a “Smile” themed video game beckoning her attention. When she sits to play, an array of circus characters pop on screen, signaling a bizarre journey down the rabbit hole for the “Dark Horse” singer.

A Perry themed character races through the festive backdrop, helping digital carnies find joy in their differences. All the while, Katy goes through costume changes depicting her as a clown and polka dotted sky siren, lulling fans into a sense of joy. Finally, Katy digs into the pie face first (literally).

Perry has been teasing the release of Smile for weeks, leaving fans anxious for its August 28 release. She hosted a #SmileSunday livestream over the weekend, treating fans to clips of "Cry About It Later" and "Teary Eyes," both of which will appear on her upcoming album.

Billboard reports the Target deluxe version of Smile will include an exclusive bonus track called "High on Your Own Supply.” She told Billboard the song was recorded in March during the beginning of COVID-19 "when I was feeling like this is the end of the world."
