Even though Lil Nas X’s debut album Montero already boasts some pretty major features including Jack Harlow, Doja Cat, Elton John, Megan Thee Stallion and Miley Cyrus — it seems Nas was hoping for at least one or two more.
On Tuesday September 21, Lil Nas took part in a revealing Twitter Q&A session using the hashtag #askMONTERO. Answering fan questions and revealing some deets including that he initially hoped for several more collaborations to be on the album — like Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.
After a fan directly enquired if he was interested in working with Gaga, to which Nas replied, "yes I actually wanted a song with her on the album but I never finished writing to it & sending it to her.”
Ugh, and now that we know that, it makes us sad. But you know what, it’s like manifestation, now that it's out there, it can actually come true. Well not with a track on the album of course, but maybe on his next one, or just a single so we don’t have to wait too long.
With Nas’s Nicki Minaj obsession being a secret to absolutely no one, it was only a matter of when not if someone was gonna ask about her. And yup! — as another fan asked which of his song did he send her to hear and possibly put a feature on. Well, turns out it was none other than "Industry Baby," which actually features Jack Harlow and has climbed pretty much to the top of the charts, so it turned out just fin, actually more than fine.
As for why no Nicki, during a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Lil Nas said that after he sent her the track, he received "no reply from Nicki,” so that pretty much settled that.
Some other deets divulged during the Twitter sesh include a would have been feature from Ski Mask the Slump God on “Scoop” saying “Ski Mask was almost on scoop but we had to turn it in before he could finish other than that a lot of them just don’t fwm tbh.” That track obviously ended up featuring Doja.
Lil Nas also revealed that he's planning to drop "Empathy" — a currently unreleased collaboration between him and Sam Smith and that it will "most likely come with a music video”
As for why Montero himself hasn’t featured on another artist's song. Nas explained that he yet to do so because he simply hasn't "found the right song yet... i want it to feel like a moment.” Respect — we feel that, we really really do.
And that wasn’t all, many more questions we’re asked and answered. So just pop on over to Montero’s Twitter page and check them all out
