Inspiring an onslaught of Twitter memes, “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” might not be as bright and bubbly as Lorde’s lead single, “Solar Power,” but that has not stopped fans from trying to decipher the new track via lots and lots of memes.
The new track has the Kiwi singer reflecting on getting older and dwelling on the shifts in friends, family, and nostalgia all set to an acoustic guitar. However, in the lyrics, Lorde reveals that she is doing all this deep life pondering while “stoned at the nail salon,” like most of us do while getting a new acrylic set.
During an interview with Apple Music’s Beats 1, the New Zealand native tells fans that she feels it's “the quietest, most introspective, and internal moments,” on the forthcoming album.
She added, “It’s about the passage of time, which is a weird thing to even think about and be in conversation with. But thinking about me at 16, my parents getting older, all these big, heavy things really confronting my mortality, I split off when I think about this song, but I am proud of it.”
However, Twitter took to memes to try and decode all of Lorde’s sentiments and inner thoughts, or to simply proclaim that being “stoned at the nail salon” will always be a vibe.
