How’s this for news to start your day?
Taylor Swift made a MAJOR announcement on social media today revealing that she’ll be releasing a brand new album at midnight tonight.
"Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening,” she captioned an Instagram post. We can relate, Taylor.
What’d she do with her newfound time? Record an album.
Folklore is Swift’s eighth studio album and is a follow-up to last year’s hit LP Lover.
“There is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen, and that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore,” she added.
“Surprise Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into. I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine."
Among the guests Swift brought on to the record includes a “musical hero” of hers in The National’s Aaron Dessner, who co-wrote or produced 11 of 16 songs on the album. Bon Iver also makes an appearance as a co-writer and singer on a track along with William Bowery, who co-wrote two songs. Finally, frequent Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff, who she said is “basically musical family at this point.”
Folklore clocks in at 16 total songs, but Swift will be included a bonus track called "The Lakes" for those purchasing the physical deluxe edition. Each deluxe edition will have unique photos, covers, and artwork.
"Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed," she said.
"My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so much."
