New York Thrash-metal icons Anthrax are keeping their 40th-anniversary celebrations going with a new Anthrax XL signature whiskey, European tour dates, and hints at a North American leg to be announced for 2022 shortly.
Teaming up once again with Hillrock Estate Distillery for a new branded, single-barrel bourbon, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Frank Bello were first in line to swig the new spirit, sitting for a series of tastings to find a bourbon worthy of the Anthrax name – which honestly sounds like the best place to be in the world that day.
Coming off as a truly learned connoisseur and not at all "Antisocial" in the video explainer above, Ian says he sampled eight different whiskeys "to pick one for our 40th-anniversary bottle," adding, “It’s a difficult task in that they’re all so great, thieved from the barrel and into my glass. Every time I’ve had to choose a whiskey, I wait for the juice to tell me that, 'it’s the one.'" Continuing, he says of the flavor, "there is an explosion of caramel, toffee, and butterscotch with hints of dried cherries and fresh herbs. The palette has a rich texture of bright red fruits, baking spices, and toasted almonds. I’m drooling just reading that back. Get yourself a bottle, you deserve it!"
For this special collector’s offering, only 400 hand-numbered bottles will be available at around $155 each. In addition, 40-Limited Edition box sets will be available, priced at $350.
While the band has already announced a string of European tour dates in celebration of the huge milestone next year, in the Instagram post above the band says each one of the 40 Limited Edition bottles of their collector's whiskey comes with "a Golden Ticket printed and debossed on gold foil-coated-card stock that awards the purchaser admission to an Anthrax headline concert in the purchaser's area and includes a special in-person Meet & Greet with the band to take place during Anthrax's 2022 U.S. tour."
No official North American dates have been announced just yet, but get ready to get "all caught in a mosh" in 2022 to celebrate four-decades of "No Other Thrash."
