We're off to Never Never Land... What would become Metallica's best-selling album, and with a certification of 16-times Platinum -- including the Diamond distinction for over 10 million copies sold -- one of the highest-selling records in history according to Nielsen, arrived 30 years ago today on August 12, 1991.

Affectionately known as the Black Album because of the minimal cover artwork and featuring the blockbuster hits "Enter Sandman," "Wherever I May Roam," "The Unforgiven," "Sad But True," and "Nothing Else Matters," the California rockers' self-titled offering has gone down in history as one of those must-have albums in any music fan's collection.

To help celebrate the 30-year milestone, Metallica has rolled out artwork collaborations with Vans sneakers, a special blend of their own Blackened whiskey, and more -- all in an effort to fully immerse fans in all-black (album) everything.

Most notable in this full-court press is an official remastered re-release of the record, complete with a companion covers album called The Metallica Blacklist. Billed as "one of the most ambitious projects ever conceived by the Metallica team," the compilation features over 50 singer-songwriters, Country artists, EDM, and Hip Hop artists, each giving a unique interpretation of their favorite tracks from the original release.

There's a reason they top our list of Metal bands who have paved the way and are still going strong to this very day. Every metalhead has a favorite band -- and Metallica is ALWAYS up there in every list. Formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, the band has consistently brought the thunder with ten studio albums, epic live releases, and some of the best merchandise to ever exist.

Now with a major reason to celebrate, you can bet your a** there will be a whole lotta 'Tallica being blasted out of windows today.
