Slayer is known for their full-throttle speed and extreme energy, so it makes since that they would finally be paired with NASCAR.
Before the band sets out on the final leg of their farewell tour, they will be featured on the #54 car in this weekend’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.
Driver J.J Yeley will attempt to rein in the car featuring the Reign In Blood band, matching the intensity and speed of NASCAR with the brutal force of Slayer. Even their logo look dangerous, so others might think twice before attempting to pass.
“It's exciting and awesome that Rick and the boys are wearing the Slayer banner making us a part of NASCAR history!" Slayer singer Tom Araya says in a statement.
"NASCAR racing and Slayer have a lot in common. Both are extremely fast, intense and aggressive” adds guitarist Kerry King. “I can think of nothing more rad than seeing the Slayer logo on Rick's car with JJ behind the wheel. I'm sure Disciples of everyone involved will be completely stoked on the bond between these two fierce entities."
For nearly 40 years, Slayer has been a musical titan, remaining icons of thrash and gods of metal. They are currently on their final tour and have recently announced, “The Final Campaign”, the seventh and final leg of their victory lap around the world.
“I am super pumped to have the legendary metal band Slayer on my Rick Ware Racing No. 54 Chevrolet for one of the greatest races of the year, The Bristol night race!” exclaims driver J.J. Yeley in a statement. “Being able to showcase the legacy that Slayer has created over the past 40 years is a true honor.”
Earlier this year, thrash peers Megadeth also appeared on a NASCAR car as part of the New Hampshire 200.
Slayer’s Final World Tour began on May 10, 2018. By the time the 18-month trek wraps on November 30 they will have performed more than 140 shows in 30 countries. You can find the final list of dates here.
