Courteney Cox doesn't have fond memories of the fountain scene from 'Friends'

Fans of “Friends” will never forget the notorious clip of the cast dancing around in a fountain in Central Park during the show’s opening credits.

Courteney Cox revealed that filming that moment was not exactly as fun as it looked.

During an interview, Ellen DeGeneres asked the “Friends” actress about her experience filming the iconic fountain scene. The talk show host also asked whose idea it was, but Cox made sure to say that she wasn’t the one up for it.

“It definitely wasn’t mine. We were in that fountain for a long time. I don’t know who, somebody thought that would just be really fun,” Cox said.

While the show makes the experience look like a fantastic time, Cox said it wasn’t.

“Let me tell you what happens. It’s not fun to be dancing in a fountain for hours and hours,” Cox added.

Cox shared that while she didn’t know Matthew Perry during the filming of the fountain scene, he, of course, had a funny reaction.

“This is so Matthew, but he was like, ‘Can’t remember a time that I wasn’t in this fountain,’” she said. “Literally we were just like ‘Oh my God, how much longer are we going to pretend to love dancing in water?’ It was fun, but not really.”

During the interview, Cox discussed details about the “Friends” reunion special and confirmed that the cast recently filmed.

“It was unbelievable, so emotional,” she said. “It’s an unscripted reunion, but we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time, all of us, in — I forgot how many years — 15 years or 17 years?”

In April, it was announced that the special was finally getting ready for production. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc reunited to film the episode in Los Angeles.

The special will air on HBO Max, but a premiere date has yet to be announced.

Announced last February, the “Friends’ reunion was initially set to premiere as part of the launch of HBO Max on May 27th, 2020. But due to the COVID pandemic, production was delayed multiple times.
