If there’s one “Game of Thrones” moment that sticks out above the rest, it’s the infamous Starbucks coffee cup that appeared in a scene right next to Emilia Clarke. Now, Clarke is finally out with the true culprit of the coffee cup scandal.
During an interview on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Fallon leaned into Clarke a little bit about the mysterious trash left behind on set. He even pulled up a clip of Clarke’s costar, Sophie Turner, outing her for the gaffe.
Clarke, in a very heated moment, vehemently denies that the coffee cup is hers and even goes on to throw the real culprit under the bus. It all started at an Emmys pre-party.
“We had like a party before the Emmys recently, and Conleth Hill, who plays Varys, who’s sitting next to me in that scene, he pulls me aside and he’s like ‘Emilia, I’ve got to tell you something. I’ve got to tell you something, love. The coffee cup was mine!,” the Daenerys actress reveals.
Just to drive her point home and relieve herself of the blame, she continues, “It was his! It was Conleth’s coffee cup. He said so!”
Hill’s revelation might be too little, too late, though. He continued to Clarke, “I think so, I’m sorry darling. I didn’t want to say anything because it seemed the heat was very much on you.”
Following the coffee cup fiasco backlash, HBO has since digitally removed the cup from the scene.
