WATCH: Jim Carrey and Alec Baldwin face off in ‘SNL’ debate parody

Jim Carrey stepped into Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s shoes, while Alec Baldwin did the same for President Donald Trump for the season 46 premiere of “Saturday Night Live.”

Rather than starting things off by tackling the latest developments of Trump’s COVID-19 infection, the show’s cold open parodied the first presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio.

“We thought it was important to see it again since it might be the only presidential debate,” the narrator told People.

While Carrey portrayed Biden and Baldwin returned as Trump, Beck Bennett played moderator Chris Wallace.

Carrey took the stage by walking out with a pair of Biden’s classic aviator sunglasses. Before standing at the podium, Carrey pulled out a tape measure to check the distance between the podiums and adjusted it to make sure it was six feet apart.

"You did take the COVID test you promised you’d take in advance?” Bennett’s Wallace asked before Baldwin’s Trump said, “Absolutely, scout’s honor.”

Once the skit started, Baldwin’s character immediately began talking about the president’s Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, whom he mistakenly called “Amy Christina Barcelona.”

Carrey’s character tried to make a statement, but he was interrupted, similar to what had happened at the 2020 Presidential Debate. “No, don’t let your inner Whitey Bulger come out. Just flash them all that smile the taught you in anger management,” he said before trying to stay calm.

Several days after the debate, Trump announced he and wife, and First Lady Melania Trump, tested positive for the coronavirus.

Over the weekend, Trump said from the hospital that he was "starting to feel good" but that "the real test" would be in the next few days as he continues to battle COVID-19.

“I just want to tell you that I’m starting to feel good,” he said. “You don’t know over the next period of a few days. I guess that’s the real test. So, we’ll be seeing what happens over those next couple of days.”
