Fans who previously urged Burton to be the latest host are rallying for him and are confident that he may be the permanent quizmaster for the game show.
Burton taped five episodes in one day with only one day of rehearsal beforehand. His “Jeopardy!” shows started to air on Monday, July 26th.
According to Today, the host of “Reading Rainbow” has been going after this gig for several years.
In 2013, the star tweeted a petition that was started by fans for him to be the next host and in 2018 called “Jeopardy!” the only “game show I’ve ever wanted to host.”
Many fans are optimistic that Burton will take the podium on the game show. Some tweeted that they would make sure to watch the show every night this week to boost ratings on social media.
“We supporting @levarburton hosting @Jeopardy this week as a family right?” Oscar-award winning writer Matthew Cherry tweeted to his followers.
One fan wrote, “Jeopardy, just sign LeVar Burton and let’s end this thing.”
While another said, “Not Jeopardy scheduling Levar Burton during the Olympics... but please believe I’m take 30 minutes every day this week to give him my view and ratings.”
Recently, Burton spoke to The Associated Press about his experience working as a guest host on the famous game show.
“This was a real challenge,” the 64-year-old actor said.
Alex Trebek worked as the host of the show from 1984 until his death in November 2020. In a pre-taped interview posted by “Jeopardy!,” Burton spoke on his admiration for the late broadcast legend.
“Alex did this for 37 years. The man was like butter,” Burton said. “For me, I think all in all, I’m going to walk away happy tonight.”
When asked if he was anxious to be a guest host on the show, Burton responded, “I was more than nervous. I was absolutely petrified and I don’t know if that feeling will ever go away.”
