Meghan McCain, who has been a permanent co-host on the daytime talk show “The View” since October 2017, is planning on leaving the show after almost four years.

The daughter of the late Senator John McCain and a conservative voice on the ABC panel, will remain on the show through the end of July.

McCain, 36, announced her departure from the show on Thursday’s episode, sharing that she is leaving the panel which also includes Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and moderator Whoopi Goldberg.

"So I am just going to rip the Band-Aid off. I am here to tell all of you, my wonderful co-hosts and the viewers at home, that this is going to be my last season here at ‘The View,'" McCain said at the top of the episode, per Page Six.

McCain also pointed to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as a factor in her decision to leave the show. "When I said goodbye to all of you in the studio over a year and a half ago, I had just found out I was pregnant. I left the city very quickly because my OB/GYN wanted me to leave because he wasn't sure about how COVID could possibly impact pregnant women. I came to the DC area, which is where my husband and I have always split time and it's where I grew up," she said. Prior to the pandemic, "The View" was filmed in New York City.

In 2019, McCain spoke about her experiences on the show on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” admitting that she goes “in assuming I’m going to be fired every day. Every single day. Yes, every day,” though she noted at the time that she never came close to actually being fired.

“It’s more the tone we are at culturally, people get canceled so easily. And by the way, Joy has the same thing, because we are the most honest and raw,” she continued. “And we’re always going to say something that is going to be too far one way.”

In February, McCain faced backlash after she voiced her frustration with Dr. Anthony Fauci and the vaccine rollout in the United States.

“The fact that I, Meghan McCain, co-host of ‘The View,’ I don’t know when or how I will be able to get a vaccine because the rollout for my age range and my health is so nebulous, I have no idea when and how I can get it,” she said. “I want to get it. If you call me at 3 o’clock in the morning, I will go any place at any time to get it."

“So I’m over Dr. Fauci,” McCain continued. “I think we need to have more people giving more opinions and honestly quite frankly, I think the Biden administration should remove him and put someone in place that maybe does understand science or can talk like these other countries about how we can be more like these other places that are doing this successfully.”
