'Sesame Street's Cookie Monster Hosting Weekly 'Snack Chat' During Quarantine

As parents remain cooped up at home with their children amidst the coronavirus pandemic, they’re constantly looking for fun new ways to keep their children entertained, engaged, and learning.

Cooking is a fun activity that involves the whole family, and there’s no one better to teach your children about healthy eating than the Cookie Monster.

Yes, cookies are his favorite snack, but the beloved character also understands the importance of a well-balanced meal and loves to nosh on fruits and veggies.

Cookie Monster’s “Snack Chat” airs every Tuesday on Youtube and Facebook and begins with the blue character reminding children to wash their hands.

He then reveals that since he’s been home for so long, all of his favorite snacks have been gobbled up.

"Toaster pastries. Gone. Fruit Cups. Delicious, but gone. Granola bars. Loooong gone,” he says before opting to make a delicious fruit smoothie (with adult supervision, of course).

It’s all part of Sesame Street’s “Caring for Each Other” initiative to give parents a bit of reprieve during the quarantine.

"Children thrive with structure in their lives and they learn best through play—even in everyday moments like mealtimes and morning and evening routines. So our site is filled with content you can use all day long to spark playful learning, offer children comfort, and focus a bit on yourself, too," the program’s description reads on the website.

The initiative provides parents and families with a variety of resources including e-books and materials that help establish routines and keep children learning while they’re away from the classroom.

The children’s animated series and learning program has also stepped in to host a virtual playdate for kids on Tuesday, April 14th at 7pm EST/ 6pm CST.

Since Elmo and his friends are also stuck in quarantine, they’ve decided to throw together a massive hangout via Zoom.

There will be singing, dancing, games, and celebrity appearances (virtual, of course) from Tracee Ellis Ross, Anne Hathaway and Lin Manuel Miranda.

So, grab your tablet, laptop, or phone, and get engaged with Sesame Street’s impressive children’s content.
