NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A trailer has dropped for a new animated music series on Netflix that was produced by Barack and Michelle Obama.
“We the People” premieres July 4 and will feature 10 three-minute episodes that “remix” U.S. civics lessons.
The series, created by Chris Nee, is described as an “exuberant call to action for everyone to rethink civics as a living, breathing thing and to reframe their understanding of what government and citizenship mean in a modern world.”
It will feature original performances by artists like H.E.R., Janelle Monáe, Brandi Carlile, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Lambert, Cordae, Bebe Rexha, KYLE, Andra Day and poet Amanda Gorman.
The series is from Higher Ground, a production company founded by the Obamas.
“Michelle and I are excited to share our latest show from Higher Ground: We The People,” the former president tweeted. “Some of our favorite artists got together with amazing animators to remix civics—and the result is a lot better than what we had in school.”
“I can’t wait for you all to see We The People!” the former first lady wrote on Twitter. “This Higher Ground project is filled with the songs and the heart of so many of our favorite artists—but even more, it’s a rallying cry for a rising generation that’s ready to take on the world.”
