As a game show contestant, your only job is to answer puzzles, riddles, and questions correctly.
A wrong move -- or letter -- could cost you the pot of gold.
One “Wheel of Fortune” contestant learned that the hard way recently.
Melanie, a Northern California graduate, attempted to solve a puzzle that was halfway filled out.
The puzzle read: "_ _ L _ Y GOO _ FELLOW.”
However, when she rang in and said she’d like to solve the puzzle, Melanie guessed: “Jolly Goof Fellow,” which was off by one letter.
Longtime host Pat Sajak was taken aback by the response.
“Uh… no,” he noted.
Another contestant then got a turn to solve and correctly guessed the phrase: “Jolly Good Fellow.”
As expected, Twitter had a “jolly good” time with the situation.
One fan tweeted: “For he’s a jolly goof (?) fellow.”
Another Twitter user noted that the answer was not “goof enough.”
That wasn’t Melanie’s only blunder throughout the episode.
In another segment of the game, she stepped up to solve the puzzle that read: "W _ L _ ES AND SHEEP.”
She guessed “Wilkes And Sheep” rather than the correct answer of “Wolves And Sheep.”
Again, Twitter was pretty amused by the gaffe with one user noting: “Is this lady for real?”
While the answer may have seemed obvious to those playing along at home, even another contestant was unable to solve and bought an “I” instead of an “O” or “V.”
However, it looks like Melanie had the last laugh after all as she ended up winning the game and advanced to the bonus round.
Though she didn’t solve the final puzzle, she still walked away with a prize of more than $20,000.
Despite a few missteps, Melanie never gave up, nor did she take her eye off the prize.
