The exhibition opens on September 18 and will cover everything from Halston's 70s glamour to Kerby Jean-Raymond's Pyer Moss. Superstars of today— Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka, and Amanda Gorman— will serve as co-chairs, and legends, Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri, and Anna Wintour comprise the evening’s honorary chairs.

Chalamet has been labeled "the most influential man in fashion." Eilish often challenges what a pop star should be aesthetically, Osaka is a top athlete with impeccable style, and Gorman became a household name overnight and effortlessly slays in the style department. Each co-chair was chosen to highlight the foundation of American style: individualism.

The two-part exhibition will run in two parts. Part one, "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," will open on September 18, 2021 and part two, "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," will open on May 5, 2022. Both exhibitions will run through September 5, 2022. The year's Met Gala will take place on September 13; pre-COVID, the Gala took place the first Monday in May.
