During Britney Spears' most recent conservatorship hearing on Tuesday, the court-appointed attorney for the Popstar told the court that Spears would like to address the judge in court.

Based on reporting from the New York Times, Britney’s lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham stated, “the conservatee has requested that I seek from the court a status hearing at which she can address the court directly." Ingham also requested that the hearing be scheduled on an “expedited basis,” ideally within 30 days.

Sparks around the “#FreeBritney” campaign were ignited in February after the debut of the New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears, which appeared on FX and Hulu. Social Media was buzzing with discussions around the artist’s treatment by the media and many closest to her. Fans around the world took part in the viral “#FreeBritney” campaign, which has continued to call for an end to the stringent conservatorship she has been placed under since 2008. However, Britney herself has never publicly addressed the situation.

In March the singer shared a lengthy and coded Instagram post, that many thought was a response to the documentary, but nothing was specified. She wrote, “My life has always been very speculated… watched… and judged really my whole life… It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I’ve always been so judged…”

Britney’s attorney did not state why she wants to address Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny. In addition, the judge did not exclusively say that she would hear Spears. However, after excusing herself from the bench and going into her chambers to check her calendar, Judge Penny scheduled a June 23 hearing related to the conservatorship status.
