TMZ reported Wallen took the stage at Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk bar on Wednesday night in Nashville, TN and was well-received by a large crowd that welcomed him to the stage with loud cheers and applause.
After admitting he might be a little rusty, Wallen went on to perform his songs “Wasted On You" and "Whiskey Glasses.”
The public appearance is one of the first for Wallen who stepped away from the spotlight after being caught on camera by a neighbor using a racial slur.
"I’m embarrassed and sorry,” Wallen told TMZ after reports of the incident surfaced. “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
Since the event, Wallen has released an apology video and letter to fans promising he’ll “do better” and that he recognizes his “words matter.”
“I’ve got many more things to learn, but I already know I don’t want to add to anymore divisions,” he said. “Our actions matter. Our words matter. I just want to encourage anyone watching to please learn from my mistake. There’s no reason to downplay what I did. It matters and please know I’m carefully choosing my next steps.”
