The tour will offer merchandise with sustainable fabrics and fewer dyes. During the show itself, energy-efficient lighting and power will be used on stage. Mendes’ crew will use sustainable fuel options during travel as food will be sourced from local farms with any excess composted or donated to appropriate organizations.
Additionally, Mendes will encourage concertgoers to carpool or use sustainable methods of transportation to the show to help make the tour carbon negative.
“Every tiny decision we make can have a positive outcome. Every action can be an act of hope. Every choice is an opportunity to protect tomorrow,” Mendes said in a statement on his website.
“My team and I have worked humbly with climate scientists and youth activists to understand how we can reduce tour emissions, and have developed a program that has allowed us to reduce our carbon impact by 50% per show this tour compared to the last tour, and to further mitigate all other unavoidable emissions to become a climate positive (carbon negative) tour.”
“No plan is perfect, but we see this as a starting point,” he continued. “We are in a pivotal moment for climate, and it’s crucial to me that this tour is a step in the right direction.”
The tour will be a lengthy one as Mendes will kick things off on June 27 in Portland and wrap everything up on October 26 in Newark. Check out a full list of tour dates and grab tickets here.
