After a major case-breakthrough for Britney Spears yesterday, as her father agreed to step down as her conservator, the Pop star and her legal team are switching gears from celebration to business as they start the journey to actually make it happen.

As reported by TMZ on Thursday, legal documents submitted by Jamie Spears’ lawyer stated a willingness for the father to step down, writing it would be in Britney’s “best interest,” considering the attention the case has received.

“Even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests,” the document states. “So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter's new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator."

While the documents reveal a willingness for Jamie to step down, a long-awaited victory for Britney and her team, the process ahead may not be as easy as it reads.

"What Jamie Spears filed today is by no means an unconditional resignation,” Christopher Melcher, a family attorney not involved in the case told Fox News. "He’s asking for $1.2 million in attorney fees and additional compensation," he added in reference to a previous request by Jamie’s legal team. "It’s inappropriate for him to condition his resignation on receiving material benefits."

Britney’s team appears to know the battle ahead as her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, commented on the new reports saying, “We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter's estate, and I look forward to taking Mr. Spears' sworn deposition in the near future.”

He continued, “In the interim, rather than making false accusations and taking cheap shots at his own daughter, Mr. Spears should step aside immediately."

So what should we expect next in Britney’s road to freedom?

"The next step is that Britney and her legal team need to either propose the same person that they've been proposing, take over the conservatorship, or else work with Jamie and his attorney to find an agreeable third party who could step in as the conservator,” revealed certified family law attorney, David Gladd, who is not involved in the case told Fox News.

"Either way, that conservator is going to be a professional fiduciary, either an individual who does this for a living and is licensed and bonded or a financial institution like one of the big banks who do these things regularly.”
