A summer of back to school shopping is just one suggestion for parents who are trying to beat high prices.

"Inflation is going to really hit some people hard. Particularly some people who live paycheck to paycheck," according to Chicago-based business writer Jennifer Waters.

She told the WBBM Noon Business Hour that back to school is one of the biggest shopping categories of the year, and that retailers will do what they can to meet inflation-weary shoppers in the middle.

"They know that people, their budgets are tight now, and they know that this is going to be more than just a one week process or a one day process," Waters said.

Waters added that the shopping extends beyond school supplies and that families spend money on clothes and electronic gadgets.

She advised parents looking to save money to stay on top of sales, and that means starting early.

"School has only been out for a few weeks and we're already out looking for sales. It's a good time for sales in July," Waters added.
