Brandon Graham likes what he’s seen so far from Jalen Carter, but it’s what he hasn’t seen that fascinates him.
The Eagles selected Carter ninth in the draft after he tumbled down the board. The belief is that his talent exceeds his draft slot, and that the Eagles got a steal in the top 10 by taking a player who fell over concerns about off the field legal issues and a rough pro day.
That said, Carter was an elite talent at Georgia, and his skill set theoretically should translate just fine to the NFL. Graham said Wednesday on the 94 WIP Morning Show that Carter ended up in the right spot.
"Man, he's been open since he got here. That's what I like,” Graham said. “I think that when we go out there, you're gonna see us play -- and I want to see him in pads. Because that's how I can tell, when guys get hit in the face and moves don't work, what is your next thing? How are you going to come back, how are you going to respond?
“Because it's a mind game in this league, and in this league, as you know, it's very technical. Older guys have tricks that can frustrate you, so I'm excited to see him in that aspect, but I think we're just building that connection right now. And man, it's been good so far.
“I think he came to the right place, because we've got a bunch of good guys and Howie (Roseman) does a good job. I think he's going to fit right in"
If nothing else, Carter will be surrounded by a solid group of veterans who should be able to help him acclimate to the NFL. For now, the Eagles’ defensive line is shaping up to feature Carter, Graham, Fletcher Cox and Josh Sweat.
