I feel pretty confident that the majority of households in the United States, regardless of loyalty to a particular NFL team, will be enjoying the jazzy, wintry music of Harry Connick Jr. as we celebrate the holiday season. However, the latest from the famed multi-platinum recording artist and three-time Grammy Award winner should be music to the ears of Saints fans... and Saints fans only.
On Thursday, Connick Jr. posted a video to his Instagram account that really had nothing to do with the Saints at all. Instead, he discussed some of the new features of his iPhone when he uses it to record his voice.
But perched atop his head, and very hard to miss, was a Saints beanie, and he addressed it at the beginning of the video — perhaps, in part, because his wife isn't all too pleased with it (h/t WWL TV).
"Hey y'all, hope everybody's doing well. Yes, I still have my Saints hat on from the game a few nights back and I'm not taking it off," Connick Jr. said. "Jill is not happy with that, but since we beat the Bucs and we shut out Tom Brady, this hat is good luck and I'm incredibly superstitious now. I wasn't before the game, but I'm not taking the hat off 'til the end of the season."
I'm not too superstitious either, but if my team shut out Tom Brady and the Bucs while I was, I don't know, wearing a pair of Ugg slippers? My office better get used to seeing me loafing around in said slippers, because that's something you don't see all that often. In fact, he hadn't been shut out in quite some time.

What dates back longer than those 255 games is Connick Jr.'s — or Jr.,'s, if you like getting into really confusing pronunciation rules — love of the Saints. The suave jazz icon was born in New Orleans back in 1967 and has been a devoted Saints fan for quite some time. An example of just how much he cares about the team? How about his passionate letter written to Commissioner Roger Goodell after the infamous pass interference non-call against the Rams:
With the 49ers' loss to the Titans on Thursday night, perhaps the lucky Saints hit is already paying off. The Saints are tied with the Vikings and Eagles with a 7-7 record, though FiveThirtyEight seems to like their chances at making the playoffs over the others who are in the hunt. Here's how they break down NFC team playoff percentages:
Packers: Clinched
Cowboys: Clinched
Buccaneers: >99%
Rams: >99%
Cardinals: >99%
49ers: 70%
Saints: 50%
Eagles: 38%
Vikings: 31%
Washington: 10%
So, sorry Jill, and sorry to the rest of the NFC playoff contenders. But the hat seems to be staying on, and that's probably a good thing for Saints fans.
