Zach Ertz and J.J. Watt have beef. Well, kind of. Ertz wanted to do something for his teammates Friday, so he brought in a box of donuts for the Cardinals to enjoy before the holiday weekend.

Nice gesture, right? Not if you ask Watt, who says he consulted Ertz beforehand, requesting strawberry and maple glaze. Ertz apparently ignored him, showing up without any of Watt’s preferred donuts.
You can understand Watt being frustrated with Ertz, who either forgot his order or went completely off script, deciding to improvise at the last minute. Treating the team to donuts was thoughtful of Ertz, but why did he give Watt a vote if he never wanted his input in the first place?
However, there’s another variable Watt may not have considered. What if the store Ertz went to didn’t have those flavors? Ertz could have tried any of Phoenix’s 21 Dunkin’ locations (the popular donut spot recently celebrated “Iced Coffee Day”), though that must not have crossed his mind. Either that or Ertz believes in supporting local businesses, preferring mom and pop to national chains like Dunkin’ and Krispy Kreme.
The real upset here is that Watt, a muscular freak with under 10-percent body fat, eats donuts—not exactly a healthy breakfast choice—at all. Of course, when you burn as many calories as Watt, who spends most of his waking hours either practicing or grinding in the weight room, you’re more than entitled to the occasional cheat day.
Let’s just hope the Watt/Ertz feud blows over before training camp this summer. In a pressure-packed environment where tensions run high, we’ve seen teams unravel over much less.
