A large majority of sports team employees are fired or suspended because of what they do in the workplace, be it for a lack of productivity or a violation of organizational conduct.
Or, in rare situations, for being a video replay operator in a sign-stealing scandal.
This was not the case, however, for Nationals employee Jahziel Morel, who was the administrator of the Nationals' Dominican academy that helped to develop Juan Soto, Victor Robles and other stars.
A video of Morel's malicious act surfaced and went viral on Twitter after footage from a convenience store was posted.
Morel was fired by the Nationals and his lawyer, Rafael Ariza, told journalist Edith Febles that Morel has agreed to turn himself in to police (via ESPN). Mike Rizzo, the team's president of baseball ops and general manager, made a statement following the firing of Morel:
"The Washington Nationals learned of this horrific incident earlier today and immediately terminated the employee. We do not tolerate this type of behavior in our organization."
The Nationals aren't the only D.C. area organization that has decided to fire employees as of late after atrocious violations of conduct. The Washington Football Team fired two members of its personnel and scouting department after the Washington Post released a story in July detailing accusations of sexual harassment and verbal abuse.
