As sports betting is becoming legalized in more and more states, bettors are jumping at the chance to start putting money on betting odds legally. And data is out for which states bet the most on sports in May of this year. Is your state one of them?

According to data from Legal Sports Report, the states who bet the most on sports in May include Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Illinois, and New Jersey.

Indiana comes in at No. 6 with bettors in that state betting $254.4 million on sports. Sports betting became legal in Indiana in 2019. Next up was Michigan at No. 5 with bettors in the state putting a total of $257.7 million on sports. Michigan also legalized sports betting in 2019. Coming in at No. 4 was Pennsylvania, which saw $447.5 million wagered on sports in May. Sports betting became legal there in 2018. At No. 3, we’ve got Nevada, with $477.4 million placed on sports in May. Of course, sports betting became legal in Nevada in 1949, so this is nothing new for them. No. 2 on this list is Illinois, with $507.3 million placed on sports in May. Sports betting has been legal there since 2019.

And at No.1 for sports betting revenue in May, we’ve got, you probably guessed it, New Jersey. Bettors in the Garden State put $814.3 million on sports betting that month. Sports betting has been legal there since 2018.

Hopefully the states who haven’t yet legalized sports betting (ahem, Massachusetts) take a peek at these numbers.
