Hobert explains that "Sue me" it's about "having an ex-boyfriend and being at a party with him, and sort of knowing that you're over it, and he perhaps is not, and even though you know you might lead him on and hurt his feelings you're just gonna do it anyway."
It's actually a phrase that Audrey uses a lot in her personal life, that's she's had to curb since the success of the song. It's been replaced by "call me crazy," which itself has song title potential
Hobert began songwriting with her friend Gracie Abrams and, "didn't feel like I was done writing music" after their collaboration. "She's definitely supportive of me doing this, but I would say I decided to do this myself."
"I actually haven't been writing songs very long. I would say writing with Gracie was my first time writing music," Audrey admits. "We did that pretty quickly, and like a lot of songs in a short amount of time. Then when we were done writing for her album, I didn't feel like I was done writing music."
"I started writing by myself and adored doing that. So, it just felt like, I don't know, life is short. I have nothing to lose by doing this. I have an amazing leg up in many ways and It'd be so weird if I decided not to go for it if I really love it and if I have a lot of ideas."
