Jazmine Sullivan, Silk Sonic win big at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards

Ahead of the televised portion of the 2022 NAACP Image Awards hosted by Anthony Anderson that will air on BET on Saturday, March 26 at 8PM, many of the winners have already been announced throughout the week leading up to the big night.

Hosted by actor-comedian Affion Crockett, the week-long non-televised Image Awards Virtual Experience has been streaming every night on YouTube and the NAACP Image Awards’ website, with the last occurring Friday (2/25) at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.

During Thursday’s stream, honors were presented in the recording categories. Among the winners was Jazmine Sullivan who received a trio of NAACP Image Awards on that evening. Her album, Heaux Tales was awarded outstanding album, “Pick Up Your Feelings” won the outstanding soul/R&B song, and she also collected the award for best artist.

Other notable winners included Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak took home the award for best traditional group as their silky smooth duo Silk Sonic for “Leave the Door Open.” JAY-Z and Jeymes Samuel won for best soundtrack/compilation album for The Harder They Fall. 

Saweetie was named outstanding new artist for “Best Friend” featuring Doja Cat, which also happens to be the same category as one of her GRAMMY nomination, while Wizkid’s bop “Essence” featuring Tems picked up the award for outstanding music video as well as outstanding international song for track’s remix featuring Justin Bieber.
