2021 got off to a bumpy start for workplace messaging service Slack and the millions of workers who use it to chat with their colleagues.
On the first business day of the year, San Francisco-based Slack experienced a prolonged service outage.
The company says the service outage started at 7:14 a.m.
"Customers may have trouble loading channels or connecting to Slack at this time," the company confirmed on its website. “Our team is investigating and we will follow up with more information as soon as we have it.”
It did not take long for news of the outage to start circulating on Twitter.
For many people who transitioned to remote work during the pandemic, Slack has become an essential way to connect with coworkers.
As of this writing, the service is still down and it is not clear how long it may last.
