20-year-old Jacob Lewis attended Swift’s Friday night concert in Houston with his sister, April Bancroft, and little did they know, The Eras Tour would be their last memories made.
On their way home from the concert, Jacob and April’s car broke down on the highway, leaving them stranded in the early morning hours. In an attempt to get the car to a safer spot, Jacob got out to push the vehicle and was struck by an alleged drunk driver. Lewis died at the scene.
The driver fled the scene after pulling Lewis out from under his car, however a heroic tow truck driver followed him and helped Police track him down. He is now in custody.
A GoFundMe was started to help the Lewis family cover funeral expenses and has far surpassed the original $60K goal in just over 24 hours. Many Swifties have donated $13 to the fund, in recognition of Taylor’s favorite number.
“It was the night I had been looking forward to for a very long time and turned for the absolute worst,” Bancroft told KPRC News Houston. “What I hope will be the worst thing I have to live through.”
April was treated for serious injuries at a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Those interested in donating to the family can find the GoFundMe here.
