2021 brought Anitta to amazing new heights. With success on her “Girl From Rio” track to recently releasing “Faking Love,” which boasts a feature from Saweetie, the Brazilian singer filled us in on what is in the works ahead of releasing her forthcoming album, Girl from Rio.
Joining us for an Audacy Check In, Anitta told Julia about all the details behind the creation of “Faking Love”, explaining, that the track was born out of her love for Brazilian funk music.
Initially, the breakup track leads us to believe that Anitta is sad about the loss, but the song quickly takes an upbeat turn, and as the singer jokingly put it should sound as if, “I’m actually happy that you’re leaving!”
At the time of conceiving the new song, Anitta tells us she was going through the exact feelings we now hear on the hit track. “I was dating this guy, and it was his birthday and I didn’t want to break his heart… so I was kind of waiting for his birthday to pass so I could break up….I don’t want to be a b***h breaking up with him on his birthday,” explains the artist.
Anitta goes on to tell us about working with Saweetie, describing the experience as a space where the two artists shared a lot of the same creative energy. “I already loved her songs before,” shared the “Girl from Rio” songstress. Every time a Saweetie track comes on in a nightclub, Anitta always feels like “yesss that’s my moment!”
Delivering a new Brazilian-infused rhythm to global audiences, Anitta tells us she wasn’t sure how the track would be received but has been thrilled by the response thus far.
During her Billboard’s 12 Hours With Anitta video, the artist said, I wanted to go international to prove that our Brazilian thing is so amazing!”
Currently, Anitta is preparing to release a Spanish single next month and following that she will also be releasing a track in Portuguese. “At the end of the day, that’s the challenge I want…sing a little bit of everything,” shared the singer.
