January 6th is National Take Down the Christmas Tree Day, and the question lies, what should I do with my tree after the decorations come down? Well, these goats will happily eat your Christmas Tree leftovers.

Starting January 6, you can support the Philly Goat Project and drop trees off at the farm in Awbury Arboretum in Germantown. Goats here love to chow down on these trees!

"For goats, eating green things is very important to their diet," said Leslie Jackson, Philly Goat Project Volunteer Coordinator. "Last year we got 2,000 trees and this year we are hoping for even more. We added another weekend, so, it’s the first, second and third weekend in January. The third weekend our friends at Laurel Hill have offered to let us use their space at Laurel Hill West. We will be collecting trees there,."

Families can bring their used Christmas tree or donate $20 to interact with goats and take part in other activities. Karen Krivit, Director of the organization, says the trees will last the goats several months, and sustain them at time with less greenery available otherwise. The trunks are then turned into wood chips to fill the farm’s paddocks.

if you are looking to recycle your trees, make sure they are untied, have no decorations on them, and are free of harmful chemicals before donating.
