PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Mural Arts Philadelphia will be the main attraction in Wednesday’s new episode of the award-winning TV series “Abbott Elementary.”
The episode, aptly titled “Mural Arts,” features a visit from members of the Mural Arts program, who help students and their teachers decide on a new mural project and design.
“I’m so excited,” said Mural Arts Executive Director Jane Golden. “I cannot believe it. I love ‘Abbott Elementary.’”
Out of the blue, the show’s marketing team reached out to the organization, Golden recalled, and said they were going to feature the program.
“They sent us a confidential draft and we reviewed it,” said Golden. “I mean, far be it from us to tell the writers of ‘Abbott Elementary’ what to do. So I was like, looks good to me.”
She was blown away again when the star and creator of the show, Philly native Quinta Brunson, posted a very special message on social media.
“Quinta Brunson said how much she likes Mural Arts, that it is one of her favorite things about the city,” Golden reiterated, “and that she’d worked on a mural in middle school with Mural Arts and the mural is still there.”
Other than Mural Arts’ sitcom debut, the rest of the episode’s details are sealed.
“Everyone should just stay tuned,” said Golden.
“Abbott Elementary” airs Wednesdays on ABC at 9 p.m. The show is available on Hulu the following day.
