Dictionary.com adds ‘jawn’ to its slang lexicon

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Has “jawn” jumped the shark? The jury's out, but Dictionary.com is making it available to the masses after adding the Philly-based slang to its lexicon.

Dictionary.com has added “jawn” and 565 other new words and 348 new definitions to its glossary.

It defines “jawn” as:

Noun, informal, chiefly Philadelphia


Something or someone for which the speaker does not know or does not need a specific name.


Examples:

• “Put some onions on those jawns or they’ll be bland.”

• “It’s gonna be crazy at that jawn tonight.”




Other new entries include “nepo baby” and “Blursday.”
