PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The No Name Pops will become the Philly Pops again on July 1, the musician-led orchestra announced on Sunday.
The group’s first performance officially billed as the Philly Pops will be at Independence Hall for the Wawa Welcome America festival on July 3. That will also be the first performance featuring new Music Director Christopher Dragon.
The No Name Pops was launched in February 2023 by musicians who left the original Philly Pops after it folded. The original Philly Pops began in 1979 and was conducted for more than three decades by Music Director Emeritus Peter Nero.
Nero’s family has given the group permission to use the name Philly Pops.
