His death was initially confirmed by recording artist, Digital Black of the Hip-Hop group Playa, when he made a tribute post to Magoo on Instagram. “Man can’t believe this RIP Magoo damn big bro wasnt ready for this at all #superfriends," the caption explained.

Timbaland posted a video of a throwback performance of the two coupled with some pictures, he captioned, "this one hits different long live Melvin aka magoo!!! Tim and Magoo forever rest easy my king."

Singer Ginuwine also payed tribute to the late rapper. “Times get rough but we keep on pushing just heard some news I hope it ain’t true …I just want everyone to know that time is short love who you love and make sure they know it,” he said in an Instagram post, before following up with another dedicated to Magoo.

"I don't even know how to say anything at this point, I have lost 3 friends now within a month to LIFE and it's due date," he wrote, "...this dude , always pushed me ...I will mis you maganooo that's what we called him ..... totally one of the best ever in m eyes always pressing forward I know we didn't talk alot but the love was and will be always there my brotha," he continued.

"Freek-A-Leek" rapper, Petey Pablo wrote about Magoo and Timbaland being "one of the greatest collaborations" of his "whole life."

"I mean damn near since the day my career started more than friends more than the music we were brothers, the collaboration, the inspiration, the good times, the bad times all felt worth it to be a part of history..!! I realize that we never lose the ones we truly love they're just not here at the moment in life must go on until we meet again.. #beyondheartbroken #restinlove #MAG #magoo," he wrote.

Magoo started his rap career back in 1989 when he and Timbaland met as teens. They were members of the rap group, SBI (Surrounded By Idiots) along with Larry Live and Pharrell Williams before the two became a duo and released their 1997 debut album, Welcome to Our World.
