Food Network chef Ree Drummond's nephew is in critical condition after being involved in a crash on the Drummond family ranch in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on Wednesday.

According to an accident report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, two fire trucks crashed into each other head-on, and one was being driven by 21-year-old Caleb G. Drummond, "The Pioneer Woman's" nephew.

Caleb was taken to the hospital in critical condition with injuries to his "head, trunk internal, arm and leg," the report said. Jerry Roberts, the director of Osage County Emergency Management, told Today that Caleb was alert when he was taken to receive extra care.

"When they left with him, he was talking to me so that's a good sign," Roberts said. "He never opened his eyes or nothing but he was talking."

The other driver, Ree's husband Ladd Drummond, waived treatment at the scene.

When the fire trucks crashed into each other, they were each on their way back from fighting a 800- to 900-acre brush fire on the property. The fire was contained when the incident occurred.

OHP is investigating what caused the crash while Roberts' team will work to investigate what caused the fire amidst a busy fire season.

"Today, it's been just one right after another," he said. "We don't even get through with one before there's another one coming in." His team fought 6 different fires on Wednesday alone.
