It may technically now be fall, but it's still hittin' season in the Manuel family.
Charlie Manuel -- the winningest manager in Philadelphia Phillies history -- passed along Tuesday that his grandson, Matthew, recently won MVP at a baseball tournament in Florida:
Matthew is preparing for his senior season at Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale. A year ago, Manuel was the starting pitcher for the Lions as they won their first district title since 2005. In his junior season, Manuel shined both as a pitcher and hitter. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Manuel posted a 3.09 ERA in 34 innings pitched, while hitting .403 in 67 at-bats.
By our math, Matthew would have been in kindergarten when his grandfather guided the Phillies to their second World Series title in 2008. He's currently uncommitted collegiately, though by all indications he'll have plenty of suitors to pick from after his high school career wraps up.
