The Birds weren’t active at The Linc Wednesday night, but there was still some Fly, Eagles, Fly going on.

Coldplay took the stage at Lincoln Financial Field on June 8 as part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour, and in the middle of an acoustic set, lead singer Chris Martin went from Yellow to midnight green, leading the crowd in a slightly different rendition of the iconic touchdown song:
The band did not perform “Birds,” “Fly On,” “Up with the Birds,” or any other song that could possibly be Eagles-related as part of their 22 (plus one) song set, but it was notable for being the first live concert at The Linc since the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the nation 26 months ago.
Coldplay’s tour saw them hit up two other NFC East venues recently – they played FedEx Field outside DC on June 1, and spent two nights at MetLife Stadium last week – and they’ll wrap up its U.S. portion next week in the Buccaneers’ home, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Nice of them to give a nod to the Philly building’s tenants, though, and while it’ll be about three more months before we hear Fly, Eagles, Fly for real at the Linc, let’s hope the 2022 season brings the final lyrics of “Up with the Birds” for ours:
“A simple plot but I know one day, good things are coming our way.”
